Cheryl A. King, Ph.D. (Program Director)

Dr. King is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Director of the Child and Adolescent Depression Program within the University of Michigan Depression Center. She is also Chief Psychologist.
Dr. King provides scientific, clinical, and administrative leadership for all aspects of the YST program.

She completed her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology at Indiana University and postdoctoral training at the Lafayette Clinic in Detroit, Michigan. Her research interests include youth depression and suicide prevention with a specific focus on the development and evaluation of innovative intervention strategies. Dr. King's clinical interests include the broad spectrum of psychosocial interventions for youth with depression.

Anne Kramer, M.S.W. (Clinical Project Coordinator)

Anne Kramer is currently a Clinical Social Worker II in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan. Anne Kramer has been a Clinical Intervention Specialist and has been responsible for the recruitment of suicidal adolescents and their parents/guardians at the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Hospital. She has also conducted YST Psychoeducation sessions and weekly telephone check-ins with youth-nominated support persons.Anne is responsible for insuring that adolescents at CAPH are screened for project eligibility.

Anne completed her graduate training in 1986, at the University of Michigan, and has been involved in the planning, administration, and implementation of innovative programs for children and families in mental health settings since that time.

Barbara Hanna, PhD Research Coordinator

Dr. Hanna is currently a Clinical Psychologist in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan. She is the Research Project Coordinator, providing consultation to the diagnostic interviewers/evaluators at both sites. Her responsibilities include supervision of research assistants, coordinating logistical details of the study, assisting in the day-to-day management of the study, editing for accuracy and completeness of the questionnaires and interview forms, attending to subject flow details, including evaluation, implementation and follow-up schedules.

Dr Hanna completed her doctoral degree in Psychology from University of Wisconsin, Madison, and postdoctoral training at the University of Michigan. Her clinical interests include psychological assessment including cognitive and personality assessment.

Paul Quinlan, M.D. (Coinvestigator)

Dr. Quinlan is a board certified child psychiatrist and faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan where he has served as Director of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Inpatient Program. His responsibilities included collaboration in establishing specific guidelines for the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Inpatient Program concerning study recruitment and coordination of study activities with other inpatient program activities.

Dr. Quinlan serves as a consulting child psychiatrist on issues pertaining to risk management and psychiatric evaluation. He will also assist in the interpretation and dissemination of findings.

Sanjeev Venkataraman, M.D. (Coinvestigator)

Dr. Venkataraman is a board certified child psychiatrist and Research Director at Havenwyck Hospital, a private psychiatric hospital and YST program site. His major responsibilities include collaboration in establishing specific guidelines for Havenwyck Hospital concerning study recruitment and coordination of study activities with other inpatient program activities. As a child psychiatrist experienced in evaluating suicidal adolescents and responding to psychiatric emergencies, Dr. Venkataraman functions as a psychiatric consultant for participating adolescents, recruited from Havenwyck Hospital, who become imminently suicidal or show evidence of an increase in risk status. He will also assist in the interpretation and dissemination of findings.

Jean Pletcher (Program Secretary)

Jean has provided clerical and office support to the YST program since its inception. Her duties include typing letters, copying, and handling phone calls; as well as participant issues, which include scheduling appointments and maintaining confidential files. She has prepared professional materials, provided receptionist services, coordinated training and ongoing staff meetings. Jean also assisted in compiling information and completing forms for grant applications.
