Postdoctoral Training Program in Clinical Psychology

Henry A. Buchtel, Ph.D.

We are delighted that you are considering a postdoctoral fellowship in our Postdoctoral Training Program in Clinical Psychology at the University of Michigan. We are extremely proud of the professional accomplishments and career trajectories of our program graduates and look forward each year to a new class of fellows.

This Postdoctoral Program has full national accreditation from the American Psychological Association. We offer training in three areas: Clinical Adult Psychology, Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology, and Clinical Neuropsychology. Our programs in Clinical Child & Adolescent Psychology and in Clinical Neuropsychology also have specialty accreditation from the American Psychological Association.

We believe that The University of Michigan is a tremendous place to acquire the tools that will enable you to succeed as a psychologist. As one of the first five postdoctoral training programs in the nation to be fully accredited by the American Psychological Association, our program reflects the guidelines and requirements of the American Psychological Association as well as those of other governmental and regulatory bodies. Residing within the University of Michigan Medical System, and with access to resources and scholarly activities available across the University of Michigan campus, our program is rich in opportunities for scholarship, cutting edge clinical training, and challenging work on the interface of science and practice. Fellows have substantial opportunities to participate in programmatic research with members of our psychology faculty, many of whom have national and international reputations in their fields. Reflecting the strong multidisciplinary focus of our department and medical system, fellows also have opportunities to work closely with faculty, staff, and trainees from a variety of disciplines.

We are experiencing a period in history that is characterized by rapidly changing economic, social and technological landscapes. Our postdoctoral training program aims to prepare each postdoctoral fellow to meet the challenges and embrace the exciting opportunities that these changes present for the delivery of psychological services and the advancement of knowledge in our field.
