Clinical Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry for overseas doctors
Purpose:
This training program is intended for qualified psychiatrists from foreign countries, in particular from Asia, Africa and Latin America.
Description:
- The training will run for one year full-time.
- Proficiency in English is required. Since the training will not lead to license to practice medicine in the US, the USMLE examination is not required.
- The training will take place under close supervision of the faculty; fellows will not be allowed to do direct patient care because of licensing and liability reasons.
- The fellowship will focus on teaching clinical skills including phenomenology; differential diagnosis and treatment.
- Selected trainees will be allowed the opportunity to join ongoing research projects.
- Up to two trainees will be accepted at any one time.
- The fee is $10,000. Trainees will also be responsible for all their expenses.
- Trainees will be sponsored for the J-1 (exchange visitor) visa by the University.
Rotations:
The following clinical rotations will be offered.
- Autism Spectrum Disorders Program: 3 months
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Clinic: 3 months
- Child development and Psychosocial Clinic: 3 months
- Psychopharmacology and Inpatient Psychiatry: 2 weeks
- Depression and Mood Disorders: 2 weeks
- Electives (Research; Forensic Psychiatry; Behavior Disorders etc.): 2 months.
Didactics:
- Didactic core: one day a week.
- Journal club: one day a week.
- Grand rounds and case presentations: one day a week.
Assessment:
Trainees will be assessed on a daily basis and expected to keep a record of their academic/clinical activities. They will also be required to take a written and an oral examination.
Certification:
The certificate of training will state that the trainee completed a Clinical Fellowship (Overseas Track) in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA.
