Didactic Program
Reading Seminar in Addiction Psychiatry ("Journal Club") - Weekly seminar in which literature is reviewed to cover the biological and psychosocial aspects of addictions. Topics include epidemiology; pharmacology; etiologic models of addiction; screening, assessment, and differential diagnosis; psychiatric co-morbidity; and treatment models.
Interdisciplinary Pro Seminar on Substance Abuse - Broad-based seminar with readings, lectures, and discussions of topics ranging from biobehavioral mechanisms of drug dependence to public policy issues. Meets every other week during the academic year (two semesters)
Major Conference Series (Department of Psychiatry "Grand Rounds") - The objective is to keep addiction fellows current in all aspects of psychiatry, because addiction psychiatry is practiced within the context of the total field.
Research Course Series - This series is designed for fellows doing the research track, and consists of a sequence of two seminars over a period of 15 sessions each. One seminar, entitled Research-Based Clinical Care, includes topics that represent the core knowledge that any clinical researcher in alcoholism should possess as they enter into more focused research efforts. The second seminar, involves a formal series of presentations on Research Methods, including elements of research design, biostatistics, computerized database and statistical programs, writing research protocols, grant writing, and publishing.
