Welcome to the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Section at the University of Michigan Health System. This is a most exciting time in child and adolescent psychiatry - with significant advances in genetics, neurobiology, and the behavioral sciences leading to a more comprehensive understanding of human development and behavior. Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Michigan is one of the national leaders in this integrative scientific effort. We have an outstanding faculty and staff, whose expertise and research range from molecular biology to innovative community treatments. Our multidisciplinary training programs have been training mental health clinicians and scholars for almost fifty years. Our clinical programs serve a large and diverse patient population - as well as providing consultation to clinicians throughout the state of Michigan.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Section is to conduct programmatic research on psychiatric disorders affecting youth and their families; to provide excellent multidisciplinary training to the next generation of mental health providers and investigators; to deliver a broad range of innovative clinical services to young people and their families; to provide subspecialty consultation to clinicians throughout the state of Michigan; and to represent the mental health needs of children and adolescents at all levels of policy planning.
This is consistent with the mission of the University of Michigan Health System to provide excellence and leadership in patient care, research, and education. The breadth of the mission provides the basis for developing and maintaining several established training programs; several funded research programs; and an array of clinical programs, including a child and adolescent inpatient program, a large child and adolescent outpatient program with a specialized developmental disorders clinic, and a consultation-liaison service.
