Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

Developmental Disorders

Director: Luke Y. Tsai, M.D.
Medical Director: Sheila M. Marcus, M.D.

The Developmental Disorders Clinic provides services to developmentally disabled children from 1 to 18 years of age. If indicated, an assessment will be done by an interdisciplinary team, which includes a child psychiatrist, speech pathologist, and/or a psychiatric nurse specialist. We comprehensively evaluate each child's medical and psychiatric status, as well as their cognitive, language, self-help and social skill development. The team assists families in creating educational and living resources for their children, and annual individual educational plans.

A variety of treatment options are provided, including behavioral modification, speech therapy, social skills and medication.

Since some developmental disorders seem to run in the family, the Clinic also will refer the family for genetic counseling to help understand the chances of the disorder recurring.
