Stephen Strobbe, PhD, RN, NP, PMHCNS-BC, CARN-AP

Stephen StrobbeDr. Stephen Strobbe is an Addictions Nursing Specialist at the University of Michigan Addiction Treatment Services (UMATS), and Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan School of Nursing (UM-SON).  He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) from Eastern Michigan University (1989, with honors), a Master of Science (MS) degree in Adult Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing from the University of Michigan (1998), and a PhD in Nursing with a concentration in bio-behavioral health, also from the University of Michigan (2009).  His dissertation was titled, “Alcoholics Anonymous: Personal Stories, Relatedness, Attendance and Affiliation.”

Dr. Strobbe maintains specialty certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist (PMHCNS-BC), Nurse Practitioner (NP), and Certified Addictions Registered Nurse Advanced Practice (CARN-AP), providing psychiatric evaluations and medication management for patients in addictions treatment.  He is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International (SSTI) Honor Society of Nursing, the International Nurses Society on Addictions (IntNSA), the Michigan Nurses Association (MNA), the University of Michigan Substance Abuse Research Center (UMSARC), the University of Michigan Depression Center, the Clinical Adjunct Faculty Network (CAFN), as well as the Alumni Society, at the University of Michigan School of Nursing.  Dr. Strobbe is currently serving on the Board of Directors for IntNSA.

Dr. Strobbe has received the Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award from the College of Health and Human Services at Eastern Michigan University (1997), the Edith Galt Morgan Award for Leadership and Scholarly Excellence in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing from the University of Michigan School of Nursing (1999), a meritorious award for doctoral studies at UM-SON (2003-2009), and the Administration and Management Award from the International Nurses Society on Addictions (2007) for his role in helping to create the University of Michigan Addiction Treatment Services (UMATS), and serving as its first Clinical Director.
