James P. King, LMSW, ACSW, CAAC
Mr. King is a therapist who facilitates the Health Professional Recovery Groups, conducts evaluations and consultations, and works periodically in the Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) at UMATS. Prior to becoming a member of the UMATS team, he managed a long term residential chemical dependency treatment center and spent three years as a member of the 15th District Sobriety Court Team. In the past year he was a member of the State of Michigan Residential Treatment Continuum Workgroup. During his nine years with the Michigan Health Professional Recovery Program (HPRP), Mr. King was a member of the Health Professional Policy Committee and the Monitoring Director for that program.
Jim is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the Michigan Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors. He received a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree from Eastern Michigan University with a dual focus, Chemical Dependency and Mental Health. He has more than twenty-five years of experience in the field of chemical dependency and Mental Health. His clinical interests are relapse prevention, dual diagnosis and the treatment of health care professionals.
