Gregory L. Hilton, LMSW
Gregory is a senior Addictions Therapist at the University of Michigan Addiction Treatment Services (UMATS). He received his Bachelors Degree in Social Work from Eastern Michigan University and his Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan. He has worked in substance abuse treatment for the last 28 years. During that time, he has worked in residential treatment programs at Henry Ford Hospital and Saline Community Hospital. He was involved in creating the first day treatment program designed specifically for adults 55 and over. In addition to designing this pioneering program, he was the lead therapist providing individual, group and family therapy.
Leaving agency work, he went into private practice for 20 years receiving training in eastern psychology, family systems theory, couples therapy and long-term group psychotherapy. During this period he expanded his work beyond addictions, working with people around issues of empowerment, relationship repair/enhancement and personal growth. He also has experience working in the private sector as a consultant, teaching/facilitating corporate culture change and team building. In 2006 he joined the UMATS treatment team. He is currently a co-therapist in the Evening Intensive Outpatient Program, where he continues his work with individuals, couples and facilitating change in a group therapy environment.
