Depression and Medical Co-morbidity

Recent work by Edward Post, M.D., indicates that older depressed primary care patients randomized to a collaborative depression treatment program were almost half as likely to die within 5 years compared to patients randomized to usual care, based on a study of over 1200 patients published in the Annals of Internal Medicine. This study highlights the importance of seeking depression treatment and the need to further implement depression treatment programs in primary care practices.
